Viken, Sweden - September 25, 2002
Välinge Aluminium won its second important patent victory in less than one week.
Eight opponents, among them Unilin and Pergo, have filed an opposition
against Välinge Aluminium’s European Patent No EP 877 130.
During a hearing on September 24, the European Opposition Division ruled
that an amended version of the patent is valid.
In short, this patent comprises a flooring system with a one piece mechanical
locking system on long and short side, which could be locked and unlocked
with angling and snapping.
Välinge welcomes today’s decision of the European Opposition
Division to upheld the validity of the patent. This system patent, in
combination with the method patent that was successfully defended last
week forms according to Välinge's opinion a very strong patent base.
In addition, it clearly shows that Välinge is the first company that
has developed a laminate or wooden floor that could be locked mechanically
according to these two valid patents. The patents are based on a PCT-application
of 1994.
