European Patent 1 349 995 maintained by the Board of the Appeal of the EPO
Viken, Sweden - May 15, 2012
Välinge successfully defended the patent against the opponent Spanolux SA in appeal proceedings on May 9, 2012 before the Board of Appeal. The Board o Appeal set aside the decision of the Opposition Division and decided to maintain the patent in amended form. The decision is final and cannot be appealed.
The maintained patent protects floorboards provided with a so-called Tongue Loc that can be assembled by angling. The Tongue Loc can be produced with low waste and with high speed by large milling tools.
The patent has a priority date of January 12th 2001.
A patent that has passed opposition is much stronger in a legal action compared to non-opposed patents. Välinge has now 13 patents that have successfully passed an opposition or an opposition appeal at the EPO. The success rate of Välinge is outstanding in the flooring industry. The number of oppositions and opposition appeals shows that our technology is innovative and commercially important.
