Välinge confident of US patent validity

Viken, Sweden -

The Curaçao-based company Innovations4Flooring recently filed a petition for Inter Partes Review (IPR) of the Välinge patent U.S. Patent No 7,398,625. All documents referred to in the IPR were already considered by the Patent Office during the examination of the patent and are therefore on record. It is Välinge’s strong belief that the claims of the patent will be found patentable by the Patent Trial and Appeal Board.

"We assume that Innovations4Flooring believes that the U.S. Patent 7,398,625 is relevant for their own locking system and therefore filed the petition for IPR. Välinge will continue to defend its intellectual property against challengers and infringers in the marketplace to the full extent of the law, thereby also protecting the interest of our licensees", says Niclas Håkansson, CEO of Välinge Innovation.

U.S. Patent No 7,398,625 is part of an extensive patent protection that Välinge is offering its licensees. The protection comprises about 180 Välinge US patents and applications related to locking for long and short side of floor boards. Additionally, Välinge has sublicensing- and non-assertion rights to patents from third parties such as Classen, Unilin, IVC, Mannington and US Floors (including exclusive and semi-exclusive rights to several of such third party patents), thereby providing a very broad protection.

"Our advanced R&D centre related to flooring technology in combination with our broad global patent portfolio including over 1,600 granted patents are key factors to why more than 200 licensees worldwide have chosen Välinge technologies in order to bring their flooring products to the next level”, says Niclas Håkansson.
