A floor with the transformative additive ACTiO2® integrated in its lacquer layer enables a natural photocatalytic process to take place when exposed to daylight or indoor light. This allows harmful emissions and unpleasant odors to be broken down, in turn improving indoor air quality and letting everyone breathe fresher air.
Unlike alternative air-cleaning technology, the active air cleaning substance is not consumed. Embedded in the lacquer, ACTiO2 remains active during the entire lifetime of the surface.
ACTIO2 is integrated in the floor top layer. Natural or artificial (indoor) light activates the titanium dioxide in ACTIO2, thereby creating a natural photocatalytic process that generates active air-purifying particles.
Toxic contaminants (Volatile Organic Compounds such as formaldehyde) in a room are spread naturally by diffusion. This enables them to get in contact with the active particles on the floor surface. Air circulation caused by air-conditioners or natural movement in the room can help to speed up this process.
The toxic contaminants are decomposed and converted into harmless water and carbon dioxide molecules. ACTIO2 also removes unpleasant odors thereby improving indoor air quality.
Floors with ACTiO2® also contribute to make the floor surface cleaner and healthier. The photocatalytic process that takes place on the floor surface assists in breaking down and decomposing bacteria and fungi. By changing the behaviour of water and liquid on the floor surface, ACTiO2 makes it easier to remove dirt and unattractive moisture streaks are minimized.
